The Timmerman Family

Well we live in USA in Ohio and I am as Irish as they come. My Grandfather, William McNally,  was born and raised in Ireland.  After giving birth to two, typically, healthy children, the Lord put it in my heart to adopt special needs children. First came Michael.  He has mild cerebral palsy and is mildly mentally delayed and had a host of medical problems as a child. Then came the call to adopt the first of what would be three beautiful children that also have special needs, they all are children with Down Syndrome.

Matty (Matthew) now 14 yrs. old has the most medical challenges. He was in intensive care when I picked him up from at 5 weeks, after surgery. He also had a feeding peg tube.  Only a few months after he came home, he had to go back into the hospital for a PDA ligation, (cardio-thoracic). He still has a host of many medical conditions even today.

In the midst, our little princess of princesses came to bless us. Her mane is Marlena and she is now 11 yrs. old.  She has some eye problems and has had 5 eye surgeries (with one more to come) abd has worn glasses basically since she was 3 months old.  She is the sweetest little girl you would ever want to have. She was placed in my arms at not quite 3 days old.  While she has a temper and you don't want to cross her, she is mostly a sweet little young lady.

Next comes Marcus, who is 10 yrs. old and a handful.  He has AD/HD with Asperger Syndrome to round him off.  He came to us from the state of Texas at age 2 1/2 months old. We always say, if he had been the first he would have been the last, so we know God knows what he is doing.

We have challenges each and every day, the speech is very slow to come, but it is coming.  The reading is coming and that is because of the wonderful teachers the children have now.  It makes all the difference in the world to have great teachers that are firm but loving and push to maximize the children’s individual potential.

If there are any questions anyone may have for us please don't hesitate to send them along.

I can say this is the most difficult challenge we have ever encountered, and yet it is the most rewarding and fulfilling calling that we can think of for our lives.

William and Sandee Timmerman, from Ohio USA.

Sandee and Bill,
I am so glad to see how grown up and wonderful all the kids look! I couldn't remember the E-mail address you gave me when I saw you at the prom. Please contact me. I would love to see the kids and have you meet Emily again!

I was wondering if we would be able to swap e-mail addresses. I have a daughter with down syndrome, ADHD and sensory intergration disorder. She will be 7 in September. If it is possible, I have a few questions to ask.

My heart is set on adopting 2 or 3 children at the same time all with Down Syndrome or CP. We have a 3 yo, I'm 38 and my husband is 48. He's not quite "there" yet, but I know that God will work out the plan. Life is hard enough - why not live it with purpose I say!
