Welcome to our Individual Support page. First of all, thank you so much for considering us as a cause worth supporting! Below you'll find some information about The Down Syndrome Centre and a guide as to how you can help us. If you are an organisation looking to support our charity please click here.
The Down Syndrome Centre was founded by Peter Gaw whose two youngest children have Down Syndrome. Peter and his wife Mary were so frustrated by the lack of services available to their two children that Peter decided to set up his own services-led organisation where children with Down syndrome could thrive.
Our charity has been around for a few years and, in October 2014, we were finally able to open the doors to Ireland's first (and only) services-led centre for children with Down syndrome and their families.
Our centre currently caters for children with Down syndrome aged 10 and under. We currently provide intervention services including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, ‘Team 21 Tots’ a parent and baby class and an early-intervention programme, SKIP. We also run a Social Skills course for older children, organise monthly seminars and workshops and host an expert panel who provide parents with answers to any questions they might have about their child.
The centre itself has become a central hub where friendships are blossoming, particularly in our warm and colourful family resource room. It has become known as a place where you are guaranteed a friendly welcome!
How You Can Help Us!
We receive no government funding at all so we rely solely on the generosity of our fundraisers. If you are in a position to help us out with one of our events or if you would like to organise your own fundraiser, we are here to help you every step of the way.
Our small fundraising team know that it can be daunting to take part in an event, or organise your own so we’d be delighted to meet with you and help you along the way.
Contact Aileen on (01) 661 8000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a chat about you event.
