A World View of Down syndrome - Dan Drinker
Dan Drinker's Video Diary
Our world view of Down syndrome brings us back to the US again this week for a look at a video blog created by the brother of a young man with Down syndrome called Dan Drinker.
On reflection, much of what is written or on the web relating to people with Down syndrome is authored by well intentioned others (oursleves included) to inform people about Down syndrome and highlight and record the lives of those we know who were born with this intellectual disability.
This blog caught our attention becuase it shows everyday slivers of Dan's family, school and working life and portrays Dan wearing his heart on his sleeve, Dan dancing, Dan at aschool and Dan doing much of what every other young person of his age does.
Dan is an active role player in the videoing process, directing his brother, Will, to "turn it off" or "follow him" and between them they have archived various events in Dan's life including the latest set of uploads which involve Dan and his relationship with his girlfriend.
It's a great look at how one bright young man with Ds - who obviously lives at the heart of a very loving family - can provide a wonderful source of inspiration.
Oh, and if you feel like living a comment for Dan please do! He loves to read them.
