Down Syndrome Congress 2009
Back at home, Down Syndrome Ireland and the organising committee for the 10th World Down Syndrome Congress have been hard at work in preparation for Ireland’s hosting of this four-day event, which takes place in Dublin City University from August 19th – 22nd 2009.
The congress takes place every three years, as a worldwide forum for sharing information on all aspects relating to Ds including health, education, social and medical research. Over 2,000 delegates – including parents, young adults with Ds and medical experts from around the globe - are expected to converge in Dublin during the period for the Congress which will run with the theme of “Lifelong Learning and Development” in 2009.
A new departure at the 2009 Congress, will be the organisation of the first International meeting of people with Down syndrome from around the world where they will discuss issues that affect their daily lives, including employment and independent living in the community. The synod will be run along parliamentary lines and is tipped to be a highlight of the 2009 event.
Registration for the Congress will begin shortly with the full programme to be announced in the New Year. For more information see http://www.wdsc2009.com/
