Inca Trail Challenge 2010
From 29th April - 9th May 2010, a team of 50 men and women will undertake the Inca Trail trek in Peru in a bid to raise 250K for Down Syndrome Centre. The income will be used to fund the appointment of two Down Syndrome Liaison nurses who will provide advice, support and guidance to parents of infants with this disability born in Dublin maternity hospitals and afterwards, at home. This is a unique service created by DSC to provide a hugely valuable service offering new levels of positive, early support to parents.
The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is regarded as one of the best treks in the world, combining mystery, history and beauty in equal proportions. Taking four days to complete, the trek will extend over 75km from start to arrival at Machu Picchu at an elevation of approx. 14,000 feet. The four nights will be spent under canvas with a high standard of food provided.
Our climb into the clouds to reach the legendary lost city will require some training on the part of those undertaking the trek. Starting from October 1st 2009 a monthly trek will be organised to help team members develop the necessary fitness for the climb and allow people to get to know one other.
A professional event organiser, based in Peru, has been engaged to arrange and co-ordiante all aspects of the trek.
