Meet & Greet with our Down Syndrome Liaison Nurse

Over the past nine months, our Down Syndrome Liaison nurse, Angela O'Riordan, has been providing her unique support and reassurance to those parents whose children have been born with Down syndrome in Dublin maternity hospitals.

Through the referral system which has been set up, all parents who wish to be contacted have been contacted by Angela, however in many cases this has been by telephone only.

On Tuesday, 27th July, we are hosting an informal event for new parents in the Shelbourne Hotel, St Stephens Greem, D 2 from 7.30 to 9.00pm. This has been organised to provide the opportunity for parents (of children up to 1 yr of age) to meet Angela in person and indeed, to meet other parents who have recently welcomed a baby with Down syndrome to the world.

The programme will include a presentation by Angela; a Q & A session and a presentation from Speech and Language therapist, Marinet van Vuren

The event is open to all comers and tea and coffee will be provided. No cost involved.

To register to attend, email us at info@downsyndromecentre.ie or call 01 - 661 8000.

Hello, my name is Anya. I'm 15 years old. I'm doing my work experience this week working at hospitals and wanting to be a nurse. I worked with a patient today who has down syndrome and she was really delightful to meet and speak to. I think when I'm older one of my options of becoming a nurse is working with people who have disabilites. I was wondering if you had any volunteer work for the summer for me. I just want to try it out. Could you please email me on the adress above or call me on this number
01628628344.
Thank you. Sorry for any inconvienence.
Anya.
