New Parent Evening - a great success
Last night (27.07.10), we held the first of our New Parent Events in the Shelbourne Hotel, D2. The objective was to provide an opportunity for new parents to meet with Angela O'Riordan, our Down Syndrome Liaison Nurse in person.
With most parents being discharged from hospital after only a couple of days, they are usually at home again before Angela receives a referral and in many cases, her only contact to date will have been by telephone.
The new parent event was planned to introduce parents to Down Syndrome Centre, to Angela and to provide an opportunity for them to meet other people who have recently had a child with Ds.
Over 50 people attended last night and the over-riding feedback was that people thoroughly enjoyed the night and thought the information value was great.
Both Angela and Speech and Language Therapist, Marinet van Vuren spoke, with a question and answer session at the end. We're guessing everyone is thinking differently about sippy cups today!
Marinet's presentation - as promised - is attached below.
The New Parent Evening is something we plan to organise twice a year along with other information events at different intervals, which we hope to provide at no cost also.
If you attended last night, we hope you found it valuable. If you missed out and would like to be included on our database for future parent events, drop us an email to info@downsyndromecentre.ie
Discuss this further in our forum here http://www.downsyndromecentre.ie/forum/
DSC invites you to make a contribution of €50 per annum to help support us in maintaining the high standard of content and information you have found on our site today and every other day. If you can support us in this way, we would be delighted to take this contribution online at http://downsyndromecentre.bigcartel.com
