Down Syndrome Centre is delighted to announce the speakers who will be presenting at our next General Information Evening for Parents, on Wednesday 5th October 2011.

The speakers will be Dr David Coughlan, Consultant Paediatrician and Grainne Maguire, specialist in the field of Orthoscopics.

These evenings are hosted by DSC and are aimed at parents of children aged from birth to 16 years. As well as listening to the expert speakers, the evenings also prove to be a good chance to meet other parents and to have a chat over a cup of tea or coffee during the break.

Dr David Coughlan is a Consultant Paediatrician based in the National Children’s Hospital, in AMNCH Tallaght. He also has private rooms in the Charlemont Clinic. He will speak on the topic of ‘Medical Advances in Down Syndrome’. He will also be available to answer any questions you may have on the evening.

Our second speaker, Grainne Maguire, will talk about visual processing difficulties in children with Down syndrome, and the use of Orthoscopics, which is the process of using coloured lenses to help perception problems. She will also look at specialist spectacle frames which work well for children with Down syndrome. Grainne will take questions from the floor too on a variety of ophthalmology queries.

The evening takes place in the Dylan Hotel, Eastmoreland Place, Dublin 4 on Wednesday evening, 5th October at 7.30pm – 9.00pm. The cost to attend the evening is €15 per person. Or €20 per couple.
