Jackie O'Donohoe Memorial Golf Classic

Jackie O’Donohoe (RIP) was a wonderful supporter of this charity since it’s infancy. She wrote the book It’s Me! It’s Me! in 2005, and donated all royalties from it to Down Syndrome Centre. It tells a lively colourful story about a little girl full of sunshine learning to make friends in school.

Since her first involvement with DSC Jackie has always inserted high levels of energy and commitment into helping us achieve goals and milestones. She has helped us with many events over the years, and in her own words ‘put the ‘fun’ into fundraising’!

In the previous two years Jackie, along with her friend Cora Dixon, have organised a Golf Day in their club, Hermitage Golf Club. These events have proved not only to be great fundraisers, but also amazingly good fun.

Much to everyone’s great sadness, Jackie passed away in June of this year. But she made her feelings known to her husband and friends during the late stages of her illness that she would very much like to see the golf day continue. And this is exactly what is happening. Her family, friends and all of us here in DSC are working hard to make this third annual event in Hermitage G.C. extra special in her honour and memory.

Being held on Thursday 13th October, the day will consist of a Four Person Team Events, with shot gun starts at 8.30am and 1.00pm. A team of four costs €400 to enter. As well as green fees this price includes dinner vouchers, refreshments and a goody bags.

And if golf is not your thing, as it’s an Open Day in the club everyone is invited to come along and join us for a celebration of Jackie’s life on the evening.  Fun, entertainment and excellent raffles will be taking place in the bar from 7pm.

We’d love it if as many of you as possible could join us on this very special occasion, and hopefully do Jackie, her memory and her efforts proud.

To book a team, to sponsor a hole, or to donate a prize for the night, please call either Cora Dixon (086 255 4241) or Jackie’s husband Matt (086 8271472)
