Lámh

Please note that we are holding a Siblings Lámh Workshop on Thursday 18th July 2019.

We are also holding a Summer Lámh Introduction Evening for families on Wednesday 14th August 2019.

What is Lámh?

Lámh is a manual sign system used by children and adults with intellectual disabilities and communication needs in Ireland. Lámh signs are used to support communication.

Language is vital for a child’s cognitive (mental)  and social development. The use of signs in early years will help children to progress and relieves frustration but for most children signs are used as a bridge to talking.

Lámh:

  • Encourages Eye Contact
  • Develops Vocablary
  • Helps Self-Expression
  • Motivates to Try Out New Words
  • Promotes Attention to Movement
  • Relieves Frustration
