New Family Support Group

The Down Syndrome Centre is actively looking for parents to participation in a Family Support Group. This is a new and ideal opportunity for a group of 8 – 10 parents to come together where they will have the chance to discuss and share common worries and anxieties associated with raising a child with Down syndrome.

Recent research has shown that parents of children with Down syndrome don’t always feel like they can be open about their struggles, in particular with family or friends. Sometimes parents feel like they have to put on a brave face and to act like everything is under control, when in fact they may be in need of support. This same research has shown the vast majority of parents find great comfort and relief from talking to like-minded individuals who really understand what they are going through.

Therefore, the aim of this group is to provide an opportunity for such parents to meet in a relaxed, confidential and safe environment. Parents will have the opportunity to discuss a wide variety of issues they might not otherwise share with family and/or friends.
