Physiotherapy

Homepage Physiotherapy

How Physiotherapy Works

Some common challenges that can affect the physical development of a child with Down syndrome include:

  • Low muscle tone or ‘Hypotonia’
  • Hyper-flexibility, which is an excessive ability to extend the joints (double jointed)
  • Reduced strength due to low muscle tone

These factors can affect a child’s physical development such as rolling, sitting, crawling and walking.

Early paediatric physiotherapy for children with Down syndrome can help with the acquisition of motor skills and develop strength to help maximise motor function.

Services

Our centre’s Physiotherapy Services are provided by Ann O’Sullivan MISCP. Ann offers one-on-one services to children with Down syndrome in our centre one Friday morning a month.
